They left me feeling so utterly confused. Rose had been the more sympathetic of the two, or was it a case of good cop/bad cop? I collapsed onto the sofa and allowed myself a good old sob. Why had I been so stupid as to drag this up again? It certainly wasn’t bringing me the peace I’d hoped and if the police believed Rob and Susan, I might end up being arrested, which was certainly not how I envisaged spending my last few months on earth.

For the rest of the day, I did precisely what I intended not to do – mooch about feeling sorry for myself. What a pathetic individual I am!
